Abstract

The article explores the prospects of using different methods of biometric identification during forensic registration. The author established that biometric data, together with the appropriate technical means by which identification is carried out, can become an integral part of the system of information and technical support of forensic registration. The author clarified the identification of biometric identification methods. Two groups of biometric identification methods are analyzed, namely: static and dynamic. Static methods of biometric identification include face recognition ("automatic face-control"); face recognition by dots; face recognition by thermogram; dactyloscopy identification; identification of the person by the retina or iris; DNA research. The dynamic methods of biometric identification include handwriting identification, identification by keyboard handwriting; voice identification (pronunciation); identification by lip movement during code word playback; identification by the dynamics of turning the key in the door lock, etc. In terms of forensic registration and its information and technical support, dynamic biometric identification methods are more complex for wide practical applications. Long-term observation of a person is necessary for the analysis of dynamic indicators in order to record the constant behavioural characteristics of this person, the accumulation and processing of such data for a wide range of persons, and so on. This will require significant time and resources, especially to create sufficient (large) databases with relevant information (primarily audio and video files that will occupy a significant amount of internal memory on appropriate electronic media). The author concluded that the most promising methods are biometric identification by face, fingerprints and DNA. The position is expressed that biometric data, which are placed in contactless carriers of identity documents, can ensure the functioning of the relevant forensic records, such as dactyloscopy accounting and registration of persons based on appearance. Furthermore, the author described the relationship between identification methods and the capabilities of modern mobile phones, tablets and other laptops, which are equipped with face recognition technology, fingerprint scanners, retina scanners, etc.
