ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE TO WATER RESOURCES OF UKRAINE AS A RESULT OF RUSSIA'S MILITARY AGGRESSION

Abstract

The environmental damage caused to Ukraine's water resources as a result of military aggression has significant long-term economic losses. Targeted attacks by Russian troops on infrastructure have resulted in damage to water intake, purification and supply facilities, as well as sewage treatment facilities in the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions. A significant problem is also the pollution of rivers, reservoirs and reservoirs of Ukraine with mines and explosive objects, the coastal waters of the Azov and Black Seas, hydrotechnical structures and seaports. The total area of water areas of Ukraine potentially contaminated with explosive objects is about 16 thousand square kilometers. According to research conducted by the UN, after six months of armed Russian aggression, more than 13 million Ukrainian citizens do not have access to clean drinking water and centralized sewage. These are Ukrainians living in regions with damaged infrastructure as a result of hostilities, as well as internally displaced persons in temporary shelters. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to monitor, analyze and systematize the consequences of Russia's military aggression for the further determination of the consequences of the ecological school. The purpose of the study is to carry out a systematic analysis of the environmental damage caused to the water resources of Ukraine as a result of armed Russian aggression for six months starting from February 24, 2022 and their consequences for the natural environment and the health of Ukrainians. For this, the method of synthesis and analysis of information, the method of classification and the method of systematization was used. The received, studied and systematized information makes it possible to further develop an algorithm for assessing the damaged school, develop mechanisms for restoration work and minimize economic damage from the damage caused.
